Default Mesmer Types

I'm in the process of building up a Mesmer, and i'm just kind of looking for advice / opinions based on attribute trees. For general PvE usage, will a primarily Domination based Mesmer function? I don't mind not getting into every party, I started the character in Nightfall for this explicit reason. Most likely after attaining the armor sets / weapons I want for this character, she'll be playing PvP almost exclusively. Currently thinking about the cookie cutter E-Surge Echo builds that I see around, but with personal taste twists. I prefer the Domination line, although Inspiration for energy management is acceptable imho. Still completely undecided on the secondary, so thoughts there are also accepted.

Just trying to see what current Mesmer players are running with the current meta, and then tweaking it to suit my own tastes. Hopefully you guys won't mind the questions, since it seems like a very interesting class. I've been shut down by enough of them to feel it merits a play through

E-surge seems to be still around though not as popular as it was before its AoE range got reduced.

You could try using Mantra of Recovery with domination and inspiration. It pairs well with Diversion and Energy Burn, and you could take also Power Drain, Drain Enchantment, Shatter Enchantment, etc.. I've found it a lot of fun.

PVE I've been going with a pure illusion/fastcast build:
[skill]mantra of recovery[/skill][skill]Frustration[/skill][skill]Clumsiness[/skill][skill]signet of clumsiness[/skill][skill]Power Return[/skill][skill]Images of Remorse[/skill][skill]Ethereal Burden[/skill][skill]Glyph of Lesser Energy[/skill]
pve casters are silly enough to wand between spells so anti melee stuff works just fine on them. Between my 3 interupts and another 6 spread out between the 3 heros Frustration is pure destruction.

For pvp it really depends on the team build.

PvP wise it'll probably be RA, considering i'm still learning the craft, so to speak.

For RA, a Crippling Anguish mesmer would be nice.

Mantra of recall is the metagame. Bury people with diversion, spike with shatter. interrupt stuff with p-drain and power drain.

I assume you mean Mantra of Recovery, Thom. But yes, it rocks ass.

Crip Anguish and other Illusion skills are good for RA as Lightning said. Not bad in TA either, but there tends to be more hex removal there. I'd generally go for Migraine or MoRecov for TA.

You mean power leak and power drain?

BTW-I've never had a satisfactory attribute spread for a MoR mesmer. Do you bump FC or Domination up, and what is an acceptable power leech at?

Ele seems to be a popular secondary. Combine e-surge, energy burn, and spiritual pain (if you want), you can use other ele spikes to reak major havoc while cause some energy denial. This works well with PvE. I don't know about PvP. The only thing you have to worry about is energy management as Ele needs TONS of energy.

the reason ele is so popular is for the energy management Glyph of Lesser Energy is the best out there atm - but it should get nerfed soon hopefully. but for pve dom empathy is great on everything cause everything attacks blindly.

Yeah, empathy ftw. I always carry that and backfire for caster hate as well.

Yeah, but there are better skills out there.... Empathy is usually not on my skillbar unless im in pve. I usually go E-Surge in HA, which works again with the 8v8 reestablished. But shutdown MoR is really nice as well, skills like Diversion, Drain Enchant, Blackout, and Shatter Enchant work well with it. Also, those skills i posted could be pve only skills, im not saying that they would be for both automatically.
